I WILL FOLLOW HIM - Little Peggy March

Disculpas. Esa es la única palabra válida para tanto tiempo de espera desde mi último post. Prometo dar continuidad todas las semanas, y va en serio. El tema con el que retornamos es una auténtica delicia para los oídos. Se trata de "I Follow Him" cantado por Little Peggy March. De ella decir que fue descubierta a la edad de 13 años por los productores musicales Hugo&Luigi, quienes la dieron el apodo de Little Peggy debido a su altura de 1'45 y el March por su mes de nacimiento (dato curioso para rellenar líneas, simplemente). El single que hoy traemos fue número 1 del US Charts el 24 de Abril de 1963, donde por aquel entonces la pequeña Peggy tenía solamente 15 años, convirtiéndose en la artista más joven en conseguir un número uno del Billboard Hot 100. Y como dato final, no olvidemos que se trata de una versión del tema francés "Chariot" interpretado por Petula Clark un año antes.

FOOL IN LOVE - The Veltones

Autentica joya la que traemos para hoy Domingo en nuestro regreso al blog después de mucho tiempo (injustificado, mis disculpas, ya estamos on ready!). No me voy a enrollar, simplemente disfruten de este precioso tema interpretado por The Veltones para Satellite Records en 1958, y enamorense.

WHOLE LOTTA LOVIN' - Fats Domino

Hoy traemos de vuelta en nuestro blog al bueno de Fats, alguien de quien siempre me fio. Poco hay que decir de él que no sepamos. La canción se publicó en 1958 y llego a ocupar el nª 2 del Billboard US R&B.  La verdad que el tema de esta ocasión es uno de los que más disfruto escuchando. Me parece una canción perfecta, por su melodía, su letra, su piano y su duración. Una canción sin rodeos, directa. Esto es amor.

SURFSIDE - Digger Revell's Denver Men

Uno de los temas que más disfruto y más me relaja escuchar. Digger Revell's Denver Men es una banda instrumental de Sydney que se formó en 1961. En 1962 grabaron sus primeros dos temas, que enviaron a EMI, el cual los fichó para su sub-sello HMV Records. Su single de debut para el nuevo sello fue Outback b/w The Mexican, a finales de 1962, pero no alcanzo ninguna repercusión. Tuvo que ser su segundo single "Surfside" el que les llevó durante una semana de Febrero de 1963 al número 1 de las listas australianas, y su salto a las listas US, UK an South Africa. Fueron el primer grupo instrumental en llegar tan lejos en las listas australianas, antes de la llegada de bandas americanas en el mismo estilo. El resto poco más. Disfruten.

JACKSON - Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood

Tras largo tiempo sin subidas al blog, y que hay que empezar a remediar ya mismo, hoy volvemos con uno de mis duetos preferidos, y es el de Nancy Sinatra y Lee Hazlewood interpretando el tema Jackson para el especial musical Movin' With Nancy emitido por NBC en 1967. La verdad que recomiendo su visionado, ya que es de los más kitsch y tiene una más que interesante banda sonora. El tema Jackson fue compuesto por uno de los mejores dúos a la hora de componer canciones, Jerry Leiber y Billy Edd Wheeler, innumerables las grandes canciones que escribieron y produjeron a lo largo de tantos años. La canción, publicada en Julio de 1967, llegó al puesto 14 de el US Charts, mientras ese mismo año, concretamente en Septiembre, Johnny Cash y June Carter hacían su particular dueto del mismo tema llegando al puesto 2 del US Country. Disfruten.

Sinceramente no tengo ni idea de la historia del grupo que traemos hoy, salvo que lo publicaba Decca en los 60's. Nada mas. Pero me hes más que suficiente para decir que es una de las canciones mas bonitas que he escuchado. Así que el resto me da igual. Disfrutenla como yo.

ROCK MISTER PIPER - Don Lang & His Frantic Five

Hoy traemos un tema perfecto para bilar ROck N' Roll!! El single apareció en 1956 como cara B del sencillo Rock Around the Cookhouse. El amigo Don Lang fue un trombonista y cantante inglés. Formó su propia banda Don Lang & His Frantic Five en los 50's. La primera aparición la hicieron en la BBC para el show de teenagers Six-Five Special, del cual grabaron la sintonía. En 1958 su versión del Witch Doctor llegó al Top 10 en el UK Singles Chart. Como dato curioso, el amigo Dan tocó el trombón en la grabación de la canción Revolution 1 del White Album de The Beatles.

I'M A WOMAN - Christine Kittrell

Bien claro que nos lo dice esta mujerona. I'm a woman (me da igual que el otro cante que I'm a man) Gran canción, gran voz, gran mujer. Christine Kittrell grabó sus primeras canciones en 1951 junto a Louis Brooks & His Band. Durante 1954, ay en solitario grabó temas para Republic Record Label, dos de ellos con Little Richard al piano. La canción que hoy traemos fue grabada en 1962 y escrita por el dúo duo Jerry Leiber y Mike Stoller, posteriormente sería Peggy Lee quien la grabaría y llegase con ella al número 54 del US Pop Charts.

Claramente Eddie Holland nos esta diciendo "Se que os va a gustar". Buen tema el que traemos hoy. Eddie Holland fue uno de los primeros artistas en pisar la Motown, y posteriormente formar parte del famoso Holland–Dozier–Holland, responsables de escribir y producir gran parte de los éxitos de la compañía. La canción Leaving Here fue precisamente escrita por este séquito en 1963, alcanzando el puesto 76 en el Billboard Hot 100 y el 27 en el Billboard R&B. Más adelante esta fue la canción elegida por Motörhead para su single de debut en 1977. La canción ha sido versioneada por varias bandas, tales como The Birds, The Who, Pearl Jam...

KILLER JOE - The Rocky Fellers

Una de mis canciones favoritas. Así de claro. The Rocky Fellers 8me encanta el nombre) fue una banda de los 60's compuesta por 4 hermanos filipinos y su padre (aunque para mi los hermanos eran solo los dos pequeños), una especia de Jackson 5 del Rock n' Roll. Los descubrió Stanley Kahn y los fichó para Spector Records. El single Killer Joe que hoy traemos lo escribió Bert Russell y Bob Elgin en 1963. La verdad que el grupo tuvo poca trayectoria, un par de singles más, un tema de navidad (Santa, Santa) compuesto por el aún desconocido Neil Diamond, y punto y final a eso de mediado de los 60's con la llegada del British Invasion bands!

I'LL CRY INSTEAD - Joe Cocker

Hoy traemos el primer sencillo con el que se dio a conocer Joe Cocker alla en el año 1964. Y fue con una versión del tema I'll Cry Instead, publicada por The Beatles ese mismo año en su album A Hard Day's Night. La verdad que aunque sea fan de los cuatro de Liverpool me quedo con esta versión del joven y patilludo Cocker, sin duda.

FEVER - James Brown

La verdad que temazo y artistazo el que nos visita hoy en el blog. Poco más hay que decir de ambos. Si no me equivoco el bueno de James la grabó en 1967, y venia como cara A de single acompañada de Stagger Lee. En fin, os dejo que deis al play y disfrutéis de esta magnifica versión del clásico Fever, la cual sin duda alguna, junta a la interpretada por La Lupe, es mi versión favorita, aunque me quedo con los arreglos de la que os traigo hoy. Delicia.
